From the fig tree, learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
This generation is the one that starts to see these things. Not the generation he is talking to at the time.
Matt 36: “But concerning that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Luke 17:26–30 Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot, they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, but on the day when Lot went out of Sodom, fire and sulphur rained from heaven and destroyed them all.
This is an account of how unaware the lost will be of their impending destruction, not one of giants and Nephilim. Judgement comes suddenly, and the lost are filled with sudden panic. The fig tree is about Christians and being aware of the return of Jesus. From “as in the days of Noah,” the reason God destroyed man can be seen today. Genesis 6:5-8 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was continually evil. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So, the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man, and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord.
Every wicked thing that you can imagine is running wild in the hearts of men again.
There are other things, such as the rebirth of Israel in 1948. If the fig tree is Israel and that generation will not pass away before the return of Christ, we get a rough date. A lifetime is 70 years, or, by strength, 80 years, which would give us a maximum date of 2028. You could read it as someone alive who was born in 1948, making the return date 2050–55. However, that would be inconsistent with the way these dates are interpreted, to the extreme. Occasionally, there are small extensions for reasons only known to God. These only have a maximum of seven years.
There are many books on all the prophecies that are happening now. They make interesting reading. I would recommend you skip any that have Gog and Magog being part of the end and any that have a pre-tribulation rapture.
What do the words say here? No one can know the day or the hour. We can certainly know the season. In fact, we are told to look out for the season. Is that the metaphorical season or three months? The wicked will certainly not have a clue, but the saints are meant to know and be alert to it. Not the day or hour, however, can we know the week, month, or year? If you have ever read the books of Jonathan Cahn or Bo Polney, you will see that God works to very precise dates and timelines. It will be 2000 years since Jesus rose from the grave, conquered death, and started this age on April 20, 2029. 6000 years since the creation of Adam. If these days were not shortened, no human would be left on the earth. To ensure there will be some survivors, those days will be shortened. So, sometime before 2029?
