Matthew 24 is often referred to when talking about the end of the age. Most inconsistencies occur because the disciples appear to ask two questions. As they are walking along, they point out the temple buildings. Jesus tells them there will not be one stone left upon another. This leads them to say when they reached their destination. “Tell us, when will these things (plural) be?” In this question, it is assumed this is about the temple, but the use of a plural suggests otherwise. The question is about Matthew 23:37. What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? Question two, both questions are about the end of the age and judgement. This makes all of Matthew 24 about the end of the age. There is more confusion caused by the fact that there was an abomination of desolation set up in the temple by the Romans just before it was destroyed. We can be led to think that this event has occurred, however, it is just a mirror image of what will take place.
